AMARTEY GOLDING:
Amartey Golding, a guest artist at Tashkeel, was born in London in 1988, where he currently lives and works. He studied Art and Design, 2005-2006, and Architecture, 2007-2010, at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, University of the Arts London. During his childhood Amartey’s family moved house regularly, not only to various contrasting communities in London, but also overseas to Ghana, West Africa. These experiences of continuous fluidity and movement have undoubtedly influenced Amartey’s artwork. Having to constantly adapt to new environments he often felt as if he himself was not part of the culture, but rather an observer looking on and witnessing scenarios and characteristics from an external point of view. Amartey is known for his large charcoal drawings on un-primed canvas. Amartey is currently exhibiting his work at Tashkeel until 7th November 2013.
Maitha Demithan is well known for her beautiful scanography and is one of the most talented draftswomen. According to her, her art is an expression of her curiosity and wonder about life and the universe, her emotions and feelings, her subconscious and conscious experiences. Her art pieces are ‘questions’ shown in a visual way, and are feedbacks she obtains through exploring the never ending depths of her mind, everything around her and the journey through life.
