LA VALLÉE VILLAGE AND “LES MÉTIERS D’ART” Discovering a tradition of Savoir-Faire and Innovation.
La Vallée Village’s mission, beyond offering its guests a memorably superior and enjoyable shopping experience, is to use its art gallery to give a voice to personalities that open the public’s eyes to new ways of seeing fashion and the world it inhabits.
La Vallée Village, therefore, is proud to support three young artists – Janaïna Milheiro, Christine Phung and Clothilde Toussaint – from the worlds of fashion and haute couture who bring together traditional savoir-faire and innovation.
La Vallée Village is also taking part in Révélations, the first international biennial fair promoting fine craftsmanship, open from 11 to 15 September 2013 under the iconic glass roof of the Grand Palais in Paris. The Village has created for the three artists a dedicated podium to present their work.
This exhibition will bring to light the link between the traditions of artisans and contemporary creation, between the past and the future. The Village will invite its visitors to a unique encounter with the creative arts; guests will be able to enjoy an exhibition that brings together videos of artists in their workshops, refining their raw material into words of art. Visitors will also be able to meet the artists and learn of their art in live demonstrations.
The brands themselves at La Vallée Village will be able to present iconic pieces from their collections. Amidst displays that showcase the brands’ savoir-faire, guests will be able to immerse themselves in the distinctive heritage and culture of the brands on offer in the Village.
In celebration of this initiative with the Janaïna Milheiro, Christine Phung and Clothilde Toussaint, Espace La Vallée® Village, the Village’s art gallery, will host an art exhibition from 20 September 2013 to 12 January 2014 on the theme ‘a vision of modernity’.
Janaïna MILHEIRO
Janaïna Milheiro creates high-end weaving and embroidery for fashion and home interiors. Her collections include unique feathered silks and laces, some pieces being one-off creations.
As artisan and textile designer, Janaïna Milheiro is drawn to researching fabrics with creative potential. She approaches her work with a diverse set of skills in embroidery, weaving, lace, printing, braiding, drawing and featherwork, all brought together with unexpected materials.
Her ‘feather fabrics’ illustrate a marriage between thread, textiles and feathers. These surprising and delicate creations bring to life a unique graphic vision of feathers. The virtuosity of her artisanal silk weaving is enhanced by feathers applied to the weft by hand. The feathers merge and dance with the thread, imbuing the fabric with a sense of vitality.
Janaïna sells her work to haute couture houses, textile distributors and ready-to-wear brands.
A textile design graduate of ENSCI Les Ateliers (Paris, 2010) and the embroidery department of ESAA de Duperré (Paris, 2007), Janaïna also enjoys the support of the Ateliers de Paris, Manufacture Prelle and the Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet pour la Vocation.
Christine PHUNG
Christine’s aesthetic is one of paradoxes. Her brightly coloured, pop-inspired prints mix artisanal techniques, such as pleating and patchwork, with contemporary graphic design. Her creations make use of rare techniques and fine materials such as silk and cashmere while remaining accessible to a wide audience.
Winner of the ANDAM 2013 prize in the “First Collections” category, Christine creates a wardrobe for modern women with effortless style and iconic pieces. The elegance of her work is based on multi-layered construction and architectural draping. Christine Phung was raised in France by a Cambodian father and a French mother. This upbringing in two cultures instilled in her an appreciation for prints and textiles.
Christine trained in design at the Duperré Fashion School and at the Institut Français de la Mode. Christine has constructed a universe from multiple professional experiences with Christophe Lemaire, Chloé, Vanessa Bruno, Lacoste and Baby Dior.
In 2008 Christine exhibited her work at the Modern Art Museum of Liège for the Design Biennale. She won the Grand Prix for creation from the city of Paris in 2011 and was a finalist for the Mango Fashion Awards in 2012. She creates collections that are both delicate and architectural, with structural and soft lines. Behind the rigour of her cuts and the rich tactile experience of her creations lies a discreet world of seduction, resolutely modern.
