How To Get the Look – Fall ’13: Smokey Eye
Check out the fall 2013 Smokey Eye looks and steps towards getting this perfection
Look #1: Dramatic Smokey Eye
Doing a smokey eye can create eye shadow fallout. To prevent necessary do-overs, apply eye makeup before anything else, including concealer. Use a Q-tip with eye cream to clean up any runaway eye shadow before doing the rest of your makeup.
Start your smokey eye by applying a base eye shadow from the lash line to the brow bone—this allows both powder and cream shadows to blend evenly.
Next, sweep a complimentary eye shadow color in a medium tone on the lower lid up to the crease, blending as you go.
If you a want a more intense look, layer on a deeper medium toned eye shadow.
Line eyes from the outermost corner of the eye to the inner corner, staying as close to the lash line as possible. The thicker your liner, the stronger your eye look will be.
For something a little sultrier, use kohl or kajal liner along the inner rim or waterline of the eye to create a smoldering effect.
Want a little extra glam? Lightly dust a sparkle eye shadow all over the lid or just at the inner corner of the eye for a hint of glimmer.
Finish with two to three coats of mascara, rolling the wand as you go from roots to tips (to coat every last lash).
Smokey Eye Look #2: Soft Smokey Eye
For a softer take on the smokey eye, choose a shadow shade that compliments your eye color— grey is great for blue eyes, while a warmer brown or bronze shade is beautiful on hazel and brown eyes

If you’re using powder eye shadow, start with a base shade applied all over the lid to extend your eye shadow’s wear.
For a look that really lasts, use Long-Wear Cream Shadow. Apply to the lower lid, blending into the crease with your finger or a Cream Shadow Brush.
Keep eyeliner as close to the lashline as possible and pick a shade that’s deeper than your eye color for better definition.
Swipe on two to three coats of mascara, rolling the brush as you coat lashes from roots to tips.
Smokey Eye Look #3: Fun Smokey Eye
Looking for something a little more fun? Pick an eye shadow color you want to experiment with—navy, purple, and dark green shades make for statement-making eyes.
Keep the eye shadow color on the lower lid, blending it into the crease with your finger or an Eye Shadow Brush.
For extra definition, add a complimentary eye shadow color in a medium tone just to the crease.
To keep eyes defined, use a shade of eyeliner that’s even darker than your eye shadow along the top lashline.
You can line your bottom lashes by using the darker eyeliner color or your lid eye shadow shade. Use an Eye Liner Brush for strong definition or a Smokey Eye Liner Brush for a more diffused look.
Finish with two to three coats of mascara, rolling the wand as you go to separate lashes and avoid clumps.
