Dolce & Gabbana MakeUp-Love in Taormina
Blooming in the ancient town of Taormina, Sicily’s native flowers inspire the bright hues in new makeup collection Love in Taormina. Ultra-vivid pigments are combined with glossy and matte textures to create a palette that radiates Sicilian summer beauty. Nails are the star of the Love in Taormina collection, with five new lacquer shades and new nail care line complemented by beautiful colours for the face, lips and eyes to complete the look.
“Taormina’s stunning panorama is lit up with marvellous colours and flowers, it is impossible not to be drawn to its sun and vibrant energy,” say Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
The Collection
At the heart of Love in Taormina’s colours and textures is the tight creative synergy between Dolce&Gabbana’s fashion and beauty worlds. Envisaged by Dolce&Gabbana Make Up creative advisor Pat McGrath, the world-renowned make-up artist used many of the collection’s colours to create a Sicilian summertime Dolce&Gabbana beauty look for the spring-summer 2013 runway.
Like a colourful bouquet of Sicilian flowers, Love in Taormina’s nail lacquers are key to the collection. Italian names for flowers distinguish five new hues. Bouganville a rich fuchsia with a touch of purple, Ibisco a dark pink with coral undertones, Oleandro a soft pearlescent pink, Iris a deep violet, Camelia a fluorescent coral; together with a duo of colours True White, a pearlescent white and Fire, a vibrant orange red.
Full, colour-rich lips and illuminating eyes complement the nail lacquers. Offering opaque long-wearing colour, the lipstick in Velvet is a cool rose pink pearl, and Cosmopolitan is a matte coral pink. Translucent and lustrous, Violet is a deep violet lipstick that adds volume to the lips.
Shimmering eyeshadow Amore, with its quartet of feminine pink and purple hues highlights the look. Bringing a sun-kissed warmth to the cheeks, blushes Sole, an orange red, Apricot, an orange brown and Mocha, a pink brown, were used backstage by Pat McGrath for the Dolce&Gabbana spring-summer 2013 fashion show.
The New Dolce&Gabbana Nail Care Line
Debuting inside the Love in Taormina collection is a new Nail Care Line formulated to create the Dolce&Gabbana Manicure. Melding nail fashion with technology, the trio of products protect, strengthen and dress the nails. Base lacquer nourishes and preps the nails, creating a smooth canvas. A duo of innovative top lacquers give a high shine or matte finish. High Shine top lacquer contains diamond powder to infuse strength into the nails and achieve a mirror-like shine, maintaining the colour and lengthening the wear of your favorite lacquer shade; while the Matte top lacquer
The Campaign
Lush with Sicilian summer motifs — oleander and a succulent lemon — photographer Giampaolo Sgura creates a mesmerising image of Monica Bellucci. Her face warmed by shades from the Love in Taormina collection and her perfectly shaped nails a delicate pink, recalling flowers of Sicily.
“For me, beauty is about showing your natural allure, and accentuating it; every element adds another layer of femininity,” says Monica Bellucci.
Application tips
Fusing fashion and beauty in a manicure that radiates with colour and texture, the Dolce&Gabbana Manicure’s look is head-turning, colour-rich and feminine. Whether the matte top lacquer is worn at the end of the nail tip over a glossy lacquer, or vice versa, the creative options are endless. To create the head-turning Dolce&Gabbana Manicure, Pat McGrath recommends selecting a duo of complementing or contrasting Dolce&Gabbana nail lacquers, using one shade as a base, and a different colour on the tip.
“I like to use colours that really pop for maximum impact, such as Iris on the base of the nail and then the tip in Ibisco. Then, play with texture by applying first the matte top coat and then the high shine top coat on the fuchsia tip,” Pat says.
