Longchamp Artistic Director in Dubai for the first time to present SS15 collection!
News from October 27th 2014, Dubai: was a very special day for Longchamp lovers. Sophie Delafontaine, the Artistic Director of the world renowned French leather goods and clothing house, was in Dubai for the very first time to personally present the new SS15 collection.
Her visit could not have come at a better time, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the iconic Le Pliage® bag. Since its creation in 1993, Le Pliage® has become Longchamp’s best-selling bag across the world, having sold over 30 million units.
Designed for the inspired, The Vida Hotel Downtown provided the backdrop for this preview. With its intuitive style and sensory stimulation the hotel was in perfect harmony with the brands new collection and the Le Pliage®.
VIPs and bloggers arrived mid-afternoon and were given a personal tour of the collection, with Sophie explaining the essence and inspiration behind each piece. Press were able to have a one on one chat with Sophie all the while posing for pictures alongside their favourite bag. Each guest was offered a variety of canapés, desserts and beverages upon arrival ranging from delectable red velvet cakes to mini lemon tarts. Press were then treated with Longchamp keep sakes – the new SS15 press material and a beautiful pouch that came in a variety of colours.
For the Spring 2015 Collection, the brand combined sport with luxury. The colour palette was based on 2 of the brands’ favourite destinations for the globe-trotting and sporty Longchamp woman. The first being the landscapes of the Nordic countries with a pastel palette (ecru, petal, lagoon, white evoking fjords, glaciers or aura borealis) energized by a standout print, derived from the lynx. The second being the spectacular marine landscape of the great barrier reef with a palette of deep blues energized by flashes of yellow and green or a vibrant mix of pink, red and coral balanced by beige. Water sports are a key influence for the “surf & the city” line with a nautical rope motif.
The entire collection is comprised of revamped versions of the brands’ most coveted pieces; Le Pliage Heritage, Le Pliage Heritage Neon, Le Pliage® Heritage Luxe, Le Pliage® Cuir, the exotic Deep Night collection and the Longchamp 2.0. Press were also able to get a sneak peek of the collaboration with famed American artist, Sarah Morris.
The event was a true reflection of Longchamp’s tradition of excellence with each piece of their collection a symbol of French craftsmanship and savoir-faire. Today, the company partners with leading tanneries in Europe and beyond to source the quality and variety of leathers it requires. Crafted by the skilled hands of Longchamp artisans into new, contemporary designs every season, these leathers give Longchamp bags their unique character, making them treasured companions year after year.
